Creating & Editing Permission Sets


Permission sets allow you to define all the permission options that will be applied either globally or within a specific forum depending on the permission sets association. You can associate permission sets with individual users or entire member groups within the forum. You can even associate a permission set to single member group within a specific forum, this allows you to control the permissions available within any specific forum for any specific member group.

An overview of how permission sets are applied can be found within the Using Permission Sets section of this guide. This section will detail how to create & edit permission sets and provide an overview of each permission set option.

Creating a Permission Set

To create a new permission set go to, Permission Sets » Manage Permissions, this is shown below...



The highlighted area shows how to begin creating your permission set; you should enter a new descriptive name for the permission set and select an existing permission set to inherit from. The permission set you choose to inherit from will be used as a template when creating your new permission set. If you don't wish to use an existing permission set as a basis for your new permission set don't select an existing permission set from the drop down list.

Once you've provided the name and selected the permission set to inherit from click Submit. This will now be presented the various permission set options as shown below...



You should define your permissions and save your changes using the Submit button at the bottom of the permission set form. This will save your new permission set making this available in all permission set lists within the forum. An overview of the various permission set options is provided towards the bottom of this page.

Editing an Existing Permission Set

To edit an existing permission set go to, Permission Sets » Manage Permissions, and use the Edit button aligned right of the permission set you wish to edit as shown below...



When editing permission sets you can also see which member groups and forums are associated with each permission set, this allows you to quickly identify how your using a particular permission set to control permissions within your community.

Deleting a Permission Set

To delete an existing permission set go to, Permission Sets » Manage Permissions, and use the Delete button aligned right of the permission set you wish to delete. If you delete a permission set you must ensure this has been removed from any member, member group or forum association.
