Permission sets allow you to define all the permission options that will be applied either globally or within a specific forum depending on the permission sets association. You can associate permission sets with individual users or entire member groups within the forum. You can even associate a permission set to single member group within a specific forum, this allows you to control the permissions available within any specific forum for any specific member group.
An overview of how permission sets are applied can be found within the Using Permission Sets section of this guide. This section will detail how to create & edit permission sets and provide an overview of each permission set option.
Creating a Permission Set
To create a new permission set go to, Permission Sets » Manage Permissions, this is shown below...
The highlighted area shows how to begin creating your permission set; you should enter a new descriptive name for the permission set and select an existing permission set to inherit from. The permission set you choose to inherit from will be used as a template when creating your new permission set. If you don't wish to use an existing permission set as a basis for your new permission set don't select an existing permission set from the drop down list.
Once you've provided the name and selected the permission set to inherit from click Submit. This will now be presented the various permission set options as shown below...
You should define your permissions and save your changes using the Submit button at the bottom of the permission set form. This will save your new permission set making this available in all permission set lists within the forum. An overview of the various permission set options is provided towards the bottom of this page.
Editing an Existing Permission Set
To edit an existing permission set go to, Permission Sets » Manage Permissions, and use the Edit button aligned right of the permission set you wish to edit as shown below...
When editing permission sets you can also see which member groups and forums are associated with each permission set, this allows you to quickly identify how your using a particular permission set to control permissions within your community.
Deleting a Permission Set
To delete an existing permission set go to, Permission Sets » Manage Permissions, and use the Delete button aligned right of the permission set you wish to delete. If you delete a permission set you must ensure this has been removed from any member, member group or forum association.
Creating & Editing Permission Sets
The options below are available when creating or editing permission sets within the forum.

The name of the permission set. - Post Options
Can post new topics? - Specify if new topics can be added to forums.
Can post replies to topics? - Specify if replies to topics can be added to forums.
Can post new polls? - Specify if new polls can be added to forums.
Can post replies to polls? - Specify if replies to polls can be added to forums.
Can vote within polls? - Specify if voting is allowed within polls.
Can post new calendar events? - Specify if new events can be added to the calendar.
Can post (if available) within closed forums? - Specify if posting within closed forums is allowed.
Can post (if available) within closed topics? - Specify if posting within closed topics is allowed. - Edit Options
Can edit own topics? - Specify if users can edit their own topics.
Can edit own posts? - Specify if users can edit their own posts (topic replies).
Can edit other members topics? - Specify if users can edit other members topics.
Can edit other members posts? - Specify if users can edit other members posts (topic replies).
Can edit own events? - Specify if users can edit their own calendar events.
Can edit other members events? - Specify if users can edit other members calendar events.
Can view last edited by label? - Specify if users can see the last edited by information.
Update last edited by details? - Specify if edit details should be updated when editing topics or posts. - Delete Options
Can delete own topics? - Specify if users can delete their own topics.
Can delete own posts? - Specify if users can delete their own posts (topic replies).
Can delete other members topics? - Specify if users can delete other members topics.
Can delete other members posts? - Specify if users can delete other members posts (topic replies).
Can delete own calendar events? - Specify if users can delete thier own calendar events.
Can delete other members calendar events? - Specify if users can edit other members calendar events. - Forum Access Options
Can read forums? - If 'No' forum titles will be shown but forums cannot be accessed. You can optionally provide a custom error message.
Can read topics? - If 'No' topic titles will be shown but topics cannot be read. You can optionally provide a custom error message. - Moderation Options
Always moderate posts? - If 'Yes' posts or edits will always be placed into the moderation queue for approval.
Never moderate posts? - If 'Yes' posts or edits will never require moderation and will always be immediately live.
Moderate edited posts? - If 'Yes' posts or edits will never require moderation and will always be immediately live.
Never moderate posts? - If 'Yes' any edited posts will be placed into the moderation queue and will require moderator approval.
Send Post Approved Email's? - If 'Yes' an email notification will be sent to the original post author whenever a post is approved (made visible) from the moderation queue.
Skip moderation if user post count meets: - This will not take effect if you've selected 'Yes' to either Always or Never moderate above. Set to 0 to disable this feature and ensure posts are moderated within moderated forums.
Can send bad post reports? - If 'Yes' abusive or irrelevant posts can be reported to moderators within forums. - Posting Options
Can post HTML code? - If 'Yes' the WYSIWYG editor will be displayed for capable browsers. If 'No' the IFCode editor will be displayed for all.
Can view & edit HTML code? - If enabled access to the HTML tab will be provided within the WYSIWYG editor for capable browsers?
Can post potentially dangerous HTML? - Only enable this option if this permission set will be associated with trusted users. This will allow potentially dangerous client-side script to be posted. - Attachment Options
Maximum Upload Storage? - The maximum space available for post and private message attachments. Leave as 0 bytes to completely disable attachment uploading.
Can download attachments? - If 'No' users will be prompted to login when attempting to download attachments. - Forum Options
Store read forums in the database? - When members read forums this is tracked in the database. Enter a maximum number of days to store this information before it's removed. Enter 0 to not track read forums.
Can subscribe to forums? - If 'No' users cannot subscribe to forums. - Topic & Poll Options
Store read topics in the database? - When members read topics this is tracked in the database. Enter a maximum number of days to store this information before it's removed. Enter 0 to not track read forums.
Can subscribe to topics? - If 'No' users cannot subscribe to topics.
Can rate topics? - If 'No' users cannot rate topics within forums.
Can view print topic page? - If 'No' access to the print topic page will be denied.
Can send topics via email? (if enabled) - If 'No' users cannot send topics via email. Email's must be enabled for this feature to work. See email options towards the bottom of this page.
Maximum poll answers: - Maximum number of answers that can be included within a poll. If answers exceed this limit they will simply be removed. - Search Options
Can view search? - If 'No' you can skip the rest of the search settings.
Maximum number of search results - Enter the maximum number of results that should be returned for searches. Enter 0 to disable any limit.
Seconds between search requests (flood control) - Provide a minimum number of seconds users must wait between search activities. This includes performing searches, refreshing search results and paging search results. Enter 0 to disable any limit.
Maximum search keyword length - Provide a maximum number of characters users can include within searches. Enter 0 to disable any limit.
By default show search results: - Select how many search results to display per search results page. - Profile Options
Can view member profiles? - If 'No' users cannot view member profiles?
Can upload and link to avatars? - If 'No' access to the edit avatar page will be denied. If 'Yes' please enter the maximum dimensions for avatars below.
Maximum avatar dimensions? (WxH) - If avatars exceed these dimensions they will be automatically downsized to fit maintaining proportions. Leave both as blank or zero to disable any limitations and resizing.
Can upload and link to photographs? - If 'No' access to the edit photo page will be denied. If 'Yes' please enter the maximum dimensions for photographs below.
Maximum photograph dimensions? (WxH) - If photographs exceed these dimensions they will be automatically downsized to fit maintaining proportions. Leave both as blank or zero to disable any limitations and resizing.
Can create and edit post signatures? - If 'No' users will not have access to edit and save post signatures.
Can see and use personal notepad? - If 'No' users will not have access to the personal notepad within their control panel.
Can override Member Level title? - If 'Yes' users can enter a member level title. This appears next to each post within the forum. This is by default determined by the number of posts a user has made.
Can override Member Level image? - If 'Yes' users can upload a custom member image. This appears next to each post within the forum.
Maximum Member Level dimensions? (WxH) - If members can override the default member level image enter the maximum dimensions for the image here. Images exceeding these dimensions will be automatically downsized to fit maintaining proportions. Leave both as blank or zero to disable any limitations and resizing. - Private Message Options
Enable private messaging? - If 'No' users will not have access to private message folders or have the ability to send private messages. If 'No' all other private message options can be skipped.
Can send private messages? - If 'No' private messages can still be received but not sent.
Can create new private message folders? - If 'No' users cannot create additional private message storage folders.
Maximum number of private messages? - Maximum number of private messages that can be stored within private message folders. Enter zero to disable limit.
Maximum number of recipients? - Enter the maximum number of recipients that are allowed for each private message sent from the board. Enter zero to disable limit.
By default private messages should - Select the default sort column for private messages.

By default show private message folders - Select the number of private messages to display per page.

Can view member list? - If 'No' the forum member list will not be accessible. If 'No' other member list options will have no effect.
Can view member list search options? - If 'No' the search options on the member list page will be hidden. If 'No' you can skip the rest of the member list settings.

Can view calendar? - If 'No' the forum calendar will not be accessible. If 'No' other calendar options will have no effect.
Can see and access birthdays on calendar? - If 'No' birthdays will not be queried on the calendar page.
Previous Year Range - Enter the number of previous years from the current year we should display on the calendar navigation and post form.
Forthcoming Year Range - Enter the number of previous years from the current year we should display on the calendar navigation and post form. - Who's On Options
Can access who's on list? - If 'No' the Who's On page will not be accessible. - Forum Activity Options
Can view forum activity panel? - If 'No' the forum activity panel will not be displayed. If disabled this can save up to two queries on each forum page. If disabled other forum activity options will have no effect.
Can view active members and user count? - If 'No' the members online and the active user count will not be displayed within the forum activity panel.
Can view forthcoming events on the homepage? - If 'No' the forthcoming events will not be displayed within the forum activity panel on the forum homepage.
Forthcoming events range - If forthcoming events are enabled enter how many days we should search ahead for events.
Can view birthdays today on the homepage? - If 'No' birthdays today will not be visible within the forum activity panel on the forum homepage.
Can view forum statistics on the homepage? - If 'No' forum statistics will not be visible within the forum activity panel on the forum homepage. - Email Options
Can send e-mail's to other members? - If 'Yes' please specify the maximum number of email recipients for each email sent from the board.
Maximum number of recipients? - Maximum number of email recipients allowed for each email sent from the board. Enter zero to disable limit. - Syndication Options
Can see RSS buttons? - If 'No' RSS buttons will be hidden and users will be denied access when attempting to retrieve RSS content via a direct URL.
Can access RSS content? - If 'No' users will be denied access when attempting to retrieve RSS content however RSS buttons will be visible.
Maximum number of RSS results per feed - To conserve bandwidth you may wish to limit results within the various RSS feeds. This will affect all available RSS feeds. - Privacy Options
Allow admin contact? - If enable users with this permission set can contact the default application email address from the login page. - Miscellaneous Options
Can choose skins? - If 'No' the forum skin selector will be hidden. This will ensure the default global skin or forum skin is used.
Can view current permissions? - If 'No' the forum permissions panel will be hidden.
Can post IFCode? - If 'No' IFCode will be stripped from posts. The IFCode dialog and shortcut list will also be hidden.
Can post EmotIcons? - If 'No' EmotIcon code will be stripped from posts. The EmotIcon dialog will also be hidden.
Can post message icons? - If 'No' message icons will not be visible when posting.
Can add images to posts? - If 'No' all HTML & IFCode image tags will be removed from posts. The insert image dialog will also be hidden. If 'Yes' please enter the maximum dimensions for image uploads below and specify if users can link directly to external images.
Maximum image dimensions? (WxH) - If uploaded images exceed these dimensions they will be automatically downsized to fit maintaining proportions. Leave both as blank or zero to disable any limitations and resizing.
Link Directly to External Images? - If 'Yes' when linking to external images within the WYSIWYG control they will be saved locally and downsized based on the dimensions above. If 'No' linking to external images within the WYSIWYG control will simply add a link to the image on the external server, linked external images cannot be downsized.
Apply bad language filter to all input text? - If 'Yes' all user supplied text will be filtered for bad language.
Force textural content check in posts? - If 'Yes' users must provide text content within posts. Posts with only HTML, IFCode, Images or EmotIcons will not be allowed.
