A moderated forum is any forum that requires some form of manual approval by a forum moderator before content is made visible within the forum to regular users.
InstantForum offers four different moderation behaviors for each forum within your InstantForum community. The moderation behaviors can be changed for individual forums.
When creating or editing forums within InstantForum you'll see four moderation options within the "Moderate Posts?" drop down list. These are...
- Moderator all new topics & replies
- Moderate all new topics but not replies
- Moderate all new replies but not topics
You can change the moderation behavior for any forum within your InstantForum installation at anytime by editing the forum from the Admin CP > Manage Forums page. When editing the forum you'll need to look for the "Moderate Posts?" option. You can see this below...
None By Default
By default when you create a new forum within InstantForum the moderation behavior will default to "None". This means unless you change this option any new topics or replies added to the forum you create will go live immediately and will be visible to everyone who has access to the forum.
Require Manual Moderator Approval
If you require content posted to your forum should be manually reviewed an approved by a forum moderator before it's visible to regular users within your community you should consider chaning the "Moderate Posts?" option for your forum to one of the options listed below.
Moderate all new topics & replies
If you require all new topics & replies added to the forum are hidden within the moderation queue until manually approved by a forum moderator you should ensure the "Moderate Posts?" option for the forum is set to "Moderate all new topics & replies". This will ensure any new posts added to the forum will only be visible to moderators until a moderator chooses to approve the topics or reply.
If forums require manual approval for new topics or replies you can have InstantForum automatically email the moderators for the forum with a link to allow them to quickly review & approve or delete the post. To enable or disable email notifications to moderators for posts submitted to moderated forums you can toggle the following options when editing the moderator account via the Admin CP - Email notification for new topics? Email notification for new replies? Email notification for edited posts?
Moderate all new topics but not replies
This option will require all new topics but not replies to existing topics to be manually approved by a forum moderator before it's visible to regular users.
Moderate all new replies but not topics
This option will require all new replies to existing topics to be manually approved by a forum moderator before they are visible to regular users. This option may be helpful if only certain users have permission to post new topics within the forum (for example moderators) but all users are allowed to respond to those topics.
