Attachment Types


Attachments

Attachment types allow you to define the file types that users are allowed to upload within your community. Using the attachment types feature you can control which file types can be uploaded for posts, private messages, avatars, profile photographs or WYSIWYG images.

To manage your attachment types visit the InstantForum Admin CP go to, Attachments » Attachment Types, this will present a screen similar to below...

Creating an Attachment Type

To create a new attachment type go to, Attachments » Attachment Types and click the Add Attachment Type link as highlighted above. This will allow you to add a new file type to allow for uploading within your community.

Editing an Attachment Type

To edit an existing attachment type go to, Attachments » Attachment Types and click the Edit Type button aligned right of the attachment type you wish to edit. This is highlighted above.

Deleting an Attachment Type

To delete an existing attachment type go to, Attachments » Attachment Types and click the Delete button aligned right of the attachment type you wish to delete.

Creating & Editing an Attachment Type

The options below are available when creating or editing attachment types within the forum.

  • File extension
    Not case-sensitive. This should be the extension of the file type you wish to allow such as .gif or .pdf. This should match exactly and contain the extension period i.e. .pdf

  • Permissions
    Allow attachment type in topics, replies and polls - tick to allow files with the above extension to be attached to topics, replies & polls.
    Allow attachment type in private messages - tick to allow the files the above extension to be attached to private messages.
    Allow attachment type for avatars & profile photograph uploads - tick to the files with the above extension to be uploaded as avatars or profile photographs.
    Allow attachment type when uploading images - tick to the files with the above extension to be uploaded as images directly into the WYSIWYG editor.

  • Icon filename
    This can link to a small file type icon to represent attachments of this type. Upload images to [ROOT]\Images\AttachmentIcons\. Provide the file name here such as pdficon.gif. Leave blank to use default icon.
