Member groups allow you to organize your members into groups and control the forums and permissions available for that group. By default there are 6 member groups within the forum (Anonymous / Guest, Forum Members, Administrators, Moderators, Awaiting Activation, Banned Members). Visitors who are not authenticated within the forum will be assigned to the "Anonymous / Guest" member group.
You can adjust the permissions for each existing member group by editing the permission set associated with the member group. You can create any number of additional member groups and associate custom permission sets with your member groups to control permissions available to member groups.
You can manage member groups from the Members & Groups » Manage Member Groups page as shown below...
The key member group options are highlighted above.
These options allow you to create new member groups or edit existing member groups. You cannot delete any of the 6 built-in member groups however you can delete any custom member groups you may create. When deleting a member group you will have the option to move primary members of that group to a new member group.
Creating Member Groups
To create a new member group go to, Members & Groups » Manage Member Groups and click the Add New Group link as highlighted in the above image.
Editing a Member Group
To edit an existing member group go to, Members & Groups » Manage Member Groups and click the Edit button as highlighted in the above image next to the member group you wish to edit.
Deleting a Member Group
To delete an existing member group, Members & Groups » Manage Member Groups and click the Delete button as highlighted in the above image next to the member group you wish to delete. If the delete button is disabled the member group is required by InstantForum to operate and cannot be removed. When deleting a member group you will have the option of moving all primary members of the group to a new member group.

A descriptive name for the member group.
- HTML Markup
Specify an opening and closing HTML tags to wrap around username for members within this group.
- Show Member Group?
If 'No' the member group will not be included within any forum searches or on the member list page.
- Permission Set
Select a permission set to control the features and permissions within the forums for this member group. For further information on permission sets please see How InstantForum permission sets work.
